Reading Day
Our longstanding grade 6 tradition is to host a reading day two or three times every year. This is a perfect time to get comfortable with a good book in your own classroom. We are also using this day to raise funds for our Honduran sponsor child. So one dollar lets you wear pajamas and slippers and another dollar gets you a cup of hot chocolate. Don't forget to bring your own books and mug. The date for this is Thursday, November 26, 2009.

Sam Tse
Sam Tse, a former Surrey Christian and Fraser Valley student, came and spoke for today's chapel. He told a part of his life story using Ephesians 3 as his text (God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. ~The Message).
Check out his missionary page on the South American Mission site.

Comments & Chats
Seems some of this blog's readers have been using the comments section for conversation. What a neat way to build community online. I'm attempting to give you another 'tool' for community building in the form of a live chat; you should see it on the right hand panel of this blog. Let me know if it works in this comment section of this post.

Coming Events & Opportunities
We are currently planning our grade 6 annual social to Derby Reach for next Friday. This field trip involves some eating, some hiking and some socializing near the Fraser River. We would like invite parents to both hike (it's a short one) and drive with us to the park. Also, we need an extra special parent to volunteer to prepare hot dogs at the park. If you can make it that day, please let your child's teacher know.
There is also a service opportunity for playground supervision. If you would be interested in helping out at our school once (or twice a week) this year, please contact your child's teacher.

Report Cards & Library Books
This is just a reminder that report cards go home on Friday; they do not need to be returned to the school. However, if you have not returned your library books or paid for a replacement, the report card will not be released until the library account is settled. This is a fairly common school policy.
- Example 1: "If materials are overdue at the time of report card mailing, report card may be held."
- Example 2: "Any student with unpaid library fees at the end of the school year will have their report card held until the fees are resolved."
