Lent Assignments for 6A

Lent Assignments for Spring Break
(I know, I know but it’s just two and Lent ends when Spring break does!)

Part of Lent is the giving of Alms.
a.       Find out the definition of Alms; write it in your book.
b.      Research an organization or place near to where you live that you could participate in the giving of Alms.
c.       Record why you would give Alms at that organization or place.
d.      Come up with something your parents can pay you for doing around the house.
e.      Take that payment and give it as Alms.
f.        Reflect on what it felt like to work for something and then give it away.

The end of Lent is Easter Sunday (record the answers to these in your journal.)
a.       How is Easter celebrated in your household?
b.      How is it different than Christmas?
c.       What do we celebrate at Easter?
d.      Does how you celebrate Easter make you think about its true meaning?
e.      Brainstorm a few things your family could do on Easter that would help you to focus on the gift of the resurrection of Jesus from the grave.

I'm very proud of all of you that participated in Lent in any capacity. I know it was difficult, you did a great job!

Christmas Buddies!

I know the Christmas Season has passed us by but here's a little glimpse into what our Surrey Christian Community was up to: Making sure our little buddies spread some joy and cheer to their older more "mature" buddies and letting those big buddies see the season through slightly smaller eyes and a shorter perspective.

Let's get Cellular!

This past Friday we were privileged to have Hi-Touch Hi-Tech come in a teach the Grade 6's about cells. The best part? We got to wear goggles! Just kidding. Our students spent the morning looking at, touching, smelling, and generally interacting with cells on many levels. We even were able to eat some! (not real cells just candy ones.) Here's a few pictures to get your mitochondria excited.

Feel the Rhythm, Feel the Rhyme, Get on up, It's Racing time!

Last Wednesday the entire MC took to the hills running for our....School! SCS hosted the annual Christian Schools Cross-Country race at Bear Creek Park here in Surrey. Our entire Middle School participated even though the weather conditions were not ideal. Huge props and kudos to Mr. Embree as he ran the teacher race pushing his daughter in a stroller...impressive!

Here's the video and the pictures!

Terry Fox.....RUN!

Here's the video of our Terry Fox Memorial Run this year. Mr. Bandstra and Mrs. Bron did a great job of organizing and educating us on the legacy of Terry Fox, then we ran. There were a few communication errors, a few over eager students, and a few wipe outs on the wet grass but there were smiles and best of all we were reminded of the sacrifice and cause of Terry Fox. Without him cancer awareness and research would not be where it is today.

Here's the link to our video: Terry Fox Run 2012

Band Camp!

Hey If you want to check out all the fun we had at Band Camp 2012 here's a few: Band Camp 2012 Video and if talkies aren't your thing here's a few coloured stills to feast your eyes on: Band Camp 2012 Pictures
